OK..let’s take a break from the computers and networks and let me comment on something I’ve been wanting to say…

I just wanted to say that John Gruden is the best thing to happen to Monday Night Football in a long, long time!  It used to be considered Mundane Night Football —–but no more.

This guy brings a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge into the booth each Monday night.  ESPN pulled off a winner here and let’s just hope John sticks around!  With the few games that have been broadcast already it is certainly great to see MNF back to the old days.

Dameware Utilities has long been a favorite of Windows Admins.   With this program you can check all of your servers and pc’s in one place as well as almost all domain/active directory information.  Drive space, event logs, running processes, edit registry entries, start/stop services, etc.  Everything under one hood.

Dameware also comes with its own remote control application that can be installed remotely or you can use RDP from within DW.  There are a lot of different things you can do with this program and while its not free, it not expensive either and its certainly well worth the price tag.  The developers push out updates regularly and keep folks informed of what’s going on.

GIMP 2.8  is adding some new features and tools that will make a lot of people happy.  Single window mode may be the biggest OPTION (yes, you can turn it on and off) to come along in a LONG, LONG time.  We just wish the GIMP dev team could put updates out sooner.  Nonetheless, they are here!!!  GIMP is a viable Photoshop alternative and once one gets through the learning curve with the layout and menus it is more than a viable Photoshop alternative.

Did I mention that GIMP is free…freely downloadable?

This website was my first attempt to help some other people with their computer problems. I like to post about my experiences that may help others, deals on equipment I run across, or programs / utilities that are fast becoming necessary.
As things have progressed I decided to build some other websites in other niches. Some for the fun of it, some to add some passive income, but in ALL cases it has been to point folks in the right direction, or to help them get started resolving a problem.
I am no programmer (as you can tell by this site) but I would rather provide some useful content over “pretty looks”. My brother sent me an email several months ago about a program he started using to help him “put up sites”, as he calls it and I started looking at what it offered only a short time ago.
It didn’t take long before I realized I have been going about this the wrong way. (Maybe you need to know my brother to understand why I brushed him off initially!!!) It took me longer to decide how I wanted this site to LOOK than it did to post anything that anyone could call useful. After I learned some new techniques that SiteBuildIt was teaching I was astounded! Here I spent several weeks trying to create a site that provided meaningful info and some older / surplus server equipment and I completed my next site in a matter of HOURS –with this program my brother asked me to look into months ago. It did take a little more time to get my inventory added but the framework took just a few hours instead of weeks!

Once I had this site I thought about working from home part-time and getting away from someone else telling me what to do and where to be, when.
